Terry McCafferty
President and CEO
Mr. McCafferty brings extensive leadership experience to Falls Lake having held executive positions in the insurance, reinsurance and finance industries. Prior to Falls Lake, he served as Head of Group Captives and Alternative Risk at Zurich, from 2015 to 2018. Prior to that, Mr. McCafferty served as Chief Operating Officer for Zurich Programs and Direct Markets, from 2006 to 2015. From 2000 to 2006, Mr. McCafferty held multiple Vice President positions at Farmers Insurance Group, including Finance Operations, Corporate Planning and P & C Operations. Mr. McCafferty received his MBA in Finance from Xavier University and B.A. in Finance and Accounting from Miami University.
Eric Liland
Senior Vice President, Chief Actuary
Mr. Liland brings over 25 years of actuarial experience in P&C and Personal Lines. Most recently, Mr. Liland served as Vice President and Senior Pricing Actuary at Arch Insurance Group in Jersey City, New Jersey. Prior to 2008, Mr. Liland held senior management roles at Chubb Insurance Group and Selective Insurance Group. Mr. Liland has a mathematics degree from Moravian College. He is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Paul Kearns
Senior Vice President, Underwriting – Workers Compensation
Mr. Kearns joined Falls Lake Insurance Companies in 2011 and leads the Individual Risk Workers Compensation Underwriting, Loss Control, Policy Services, and Marketing departments, with over 20 years of workers’ compensation insurance experience. He also oversees the Falls Lake Workers’ Compensation Program business. Mr. Kearns is a graduate of Hobart College. Prior to Falls Lake, he served in multiple capacities with iSurity Insurance Services including experience in both the Claims and Loss Control departments. In addition, he’s spent 8 years serving as the Director of Underwriting. Mr. Kearns holds an Associate in Risk Management designation.
Angela J. Burnett
Senior Vice President, Chief HR & Operations Officer
Mrs. Burnett joined James River Insurance Company in April 2009, and assumed leadership of HR Shared Services for James River Group Holdings, Ltd., parent company of Falls Lake Insurance Companies, in 2014. Prior to joining James River, she held the position of Vice President of Human Resources at LandAmerica Financial Group, Inc. In the 20 plus years Mrs. Burnett has been in the Human Resources field, she has held leadership positions with responsibilities in many areas of HR including talent management and change leadership, strategic HR program development and planning, succession planning, leadership and management training, large-scale project planning and execution, merger integration, talent acquisition, employee relations, benefits, compensation, operations and process improvement. Mrs. Burnett earned a B.S. degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation.
Timothy S. MacAleese
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Prior to joining Falls Lake Insurance Companies and James River Insurance Company, both subsidiaries of James River Group Holdings, Ltd. in May 2018, Mr. MacAleese was a founding member of Elephant Insurance Company, serving as its CFO since inception in 2008. While there, he helped grow the startup to over $200 million in annual direct written premium and over 600 employees. During his tenure, Mr. MacAleese was responsible for building and leading numerous functions, including finance/accounting, pricing/actuarial, legal, compliance, IT/MIS, data services, reinsurance and internal audit. Prior to Elephant, he co-led the US consulting practice for the high-tech and telecom vertical at Gartner. In total, Mr. MacAleese spent over 10 years consulting businesses on sales, marketing and operations strategy. He began his career as a CPA at Coles & Bodoin, a public accounting firm in Boston, MA. Mr. MacAleese holds a B.S. degree from Babson College and an MBA from the Darden Business School.
Tom Peach
Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer
Mr. Peach joined James River Group Holdings, Ltd., parent company of Falls Lake Insurance Companies, in March 2019 bringing over 30 years of IT leadership experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining James River, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Zurich North America, responsible for end-to-end delivery of all technology services including strategy development, application service management, infrastructure, desktop services as well as outsourced services. During his tenure in the underwriting solutions area, Mr. Peach gained expertise in underwriting automation including predictive analytics and pricing, policy administration, agency upload/download, rating and print technologies. Mr. Peach has an Information Systems Management degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He has completed executive course work from Northwestern Kellogg School of Business and the Center for Creative Leadership.
James W. Gunson
Senior Vice President, Chief Claims Officer
Mr. Gunson joined James River Group in September 2021. Prior to joining James River, he served as Senior Vice President of Complex Casualty Claims for CNA Insurance, where he was responsible for establishing and implementing strategy for continued improvement of claim handling, customer service, and claim results for all Casualty Lines of Business, for providing his underwriting and actuarial business partners with information related to claim trends and product development, and for oversight and resolution of all “portfolio” exposures including CNA’s legacy asbestos and pollution exposures, abuse, and opioid claims. Prior to joining CNA, Mr. Gunson held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility in Chubb’s General Counsel and Claim Department that culminated with him serving as Chubb’s Worldwide Casualty Claim Manager. Prior to joining Chubb, Mr. Gunson worked for close to a decade as a partner in a New Jersey law firm, CMK, where his areas of practice included insurance defense, insurance coverage litigation, construction defect litigation and complex commercial disputes. He began his legal career as a law clerk to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. Mr. Gunson is a former U.S. Army Military Police Officer who served with the U.S. Army’s 59th Ordinance Brigade in Siegelsbach, Germany. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Delaware and received his Juris Doctorate magna cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law.
William Bowman
Senior Vice President, Specialty Program Management
Mr. Bowman joined Falls Lake Insurance Companies in April of 2019. Prior to joining Falls Lake, he was VP of Aviation Insurance Sales with the in-house insurance agency of AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) in Frederick, Maryland. Mr. Bowman began his insurance career in 1988 as a Personal Lines Product Manager with Travelers Insurance. He has also worked at Integon, Farmers Insurance, and Bankers Financial Corporation in a variety of roles including product management, sales, marketing, and general management. Mr. Bowman holds a B.S. degree in Management Science from Duke University and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Stephen Ciarrocchi
Senior Vice President, Head of Business Development
Mr. Ciarrocchi brings extensive leadership experience to Falls Lake having held executive positions in the insurance and finance industries. Prior to Falls Lake, Mr. Ciarrocchi was Regional Vice President for Arrowhead Insurance in Overland Park, KS. Mr. Ciarrocchi began his career in 1997 with Zurich Insurance. During his 20 years with Zurich, Mr. Ciarrocchi held a number of executive and management roles in sales, marketing, and general management, along with direct and exclusive agent distribution. Mr. Ciarrocchi holds B.S. degree in Marketing and Finance from Philadelphia University along with CIC designation and Leadership & Negotiation designations from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
Bakari Watkins
Vice President, Claims
Mr. Watkins has over 20 years of claims experience in the insurance industry including multiple management positions at James River Insurance Company. As Manager, then Director of Claims, Mr. Watkins oversaw Energy and Environmental, Life Sciences, Manufacturer and Contractors, General Casualty and Commercial Auto teams. Prior to joining James River, he was a Senior Claims Examiner with Markel Insurance Company, handling commercial lines general liability and auto claims with serious injury. Mr. Watkins also held the position of Workers Compensation Claims Adjuster for Cigna Property and Casualty. Mr. Watkins holds a B.S. in Business Administration with an Economics concentration from University of Richmond as well as his SCLA designation. Bakari currently holds insurance adjuster licenses in multiple states.
John Kerekes
Vice President, Account Services
Mr. Kerekes joined the Company to lead its transactional audit function. From 1997 to 2016, Mr. Kerekes was a Vice President at Munich Reinsurance in Princeton NJ. Prior to his tenure at Munich Re, Mr. Kerekes spent six years with Constitution Reinsurance Corporation as part of the company’s MGA and ceding company audit team. Prior to Constitution Re, Mr. Kerekes worked at GRE Insurance and at Crum & Forster. Mr. Kerekes began his career in 1986 with KPMG. He has a bachelor’s degree from Rider University.
